This Ariel-inspired mermaid birthday party is one of the most lovely girls’ parties I’ve ever seen! It was styled and photographed by the very talented Hana of The MomTog Diaries. Hana says, “My daughter Halle picked this year’s theme even before we celebrated last year’s birthday… she’s a little overzealous when it comes to her birthday, lol! With the help of a little Pinterest inspiration mixed with some ideas of my own I was able to create an enchanting tablescape perfect for my Ariel loving princess. I wanted this party to give a nod to the famous under-the-sea princess (hence the “dinglehopper” and spoon detail) without screaming ARIEL everywhere (no themed cups and plates here). I chose a soft color palette in varying shades of aqua and coral to help tie everything together. Halle loved everything about her day!!”

I love how sophisticated-yet-girlie the food table looks! The pale aqua ruffled backdrop hints at the sea, and the neutral fabric and lace tablecloths are a nod to the sand.

The ruffled backdrop is a shower curtain from Bed Bath Store (Hana says, “at $19.99, it was much cheaper than the same style curtain at Urban Outfitters, which was $79!”). The party poms are from Pom Pom Sale. And the “dinglehopper” and spoon displayed in candlesticks are the most charming detail!

Ruffled cake pops for a mermaid party

The ombre blue ruffle cake pops and starfish sugar cookies were made by Frances of Peace Love Flour. Hana says, “They were moist, sweet and delicious! Frances got the cake pops and cookies spot-on to what I requested. If you’re near Greensboro, NC and need a special treat you should definitely check out all she has to offer!”

The stunning ombre petal cake was made by a family friend, Rachel. (Hana says, “Rachel doesn’t have a baking business but I bet she would do well if she ever did!” – I definitely agree!!)

The sequin crowns were a dollar bin find at JoAnn’s. The photo banner was a last-minute addition to the decor – Hana says, “I threw that together at the last minute because I totally forgot to make it. Good thing it was an easy project!”

The sea glass candy was homemade using this recipe.

Starfish Rice Krispie treats for a mermaid birthday party

Rice Krispie starfish are an easy and true-to-the-theme treat! The Ariel rings were from Target. I love how they look presented in a milk glass serving piece! It was filled with raw sugar crystals that look like sand.

Each guest made their own “pearl” necklace from gumballs and ribbons. Hana says, “I made sure to pre-drill the holes using a skewer, and I pre-cut the ribbon lengths to make assembly easier. I also attached a toothpick to one end of each ribbon strand to make it easy to thread the ribbon through the ‘pearls.'”

Mermaid birthday party - a phone call from Ariel!

During the party, Halle got a surprise phone call from Ariel! Hana says, “Ariel called and sang songs to her and chatted with her about her party. Halle couldn’t believe it!!”

Hana says, “Ariel sent 3 signed photos for Halle as well as a special tiara which I presented to her at the party! It was magical indeed! (Notice the “dinglehopper” photo stand… it’s a $2 antique store find!)”
