This cat theme birthday party for 5-year-old Aubrey is seriously cute and seriously thrifty! Mom Ashley planned the party using supplies she had on-hand, great finds from the dollar store, and free cat adoption printables – all based on Aubrey’s request for a pink and purple, “sparkly and kinda fancy” kitty cat party.
The party table was set up on a built-in hutch, with a homemade glittery fish garland, a chocolate cake from Whole Foods, stuffed kittens and adoption certificates, and kitty buckets (to fill with party favors).
The sweet cake topper was made from two paper straws, homemade yarn balls, and stamped construction paper.
Another built-in shelf was set up as a coloring station, with free cat themed coloring pages hung on tiny clotheslines.
The party was small and sweet – just Aubrey and two of her best friends. Each chair at the child-sized table was set with homemade cat ear headbands and white fluffy tails for the girls to wear. (The headbands were made from Dollar Store headbands plus white and pink felt. The tails? Just a white boa cut into strips and attached to hair bow clips. Clever!!)
Ashley made the girls’ plates look like cat faces by adding ears and whiskers cut from paper. A toy mouse from the Dollar Store was on each plate.
The girls snacked on pink and purple popcorn, yogurt stars, chocolate paw suckers, Goldfish crackers, pink lemonade, water and milk.
The birdcage centerpiece was meant to look like a cat had broken in and eaten the bird. (Ha!) ; )
The girls loved pretending to be cats!
Ashley said that the yarn ball piñata was a huge hit! She repurposed a disco ball pull string piñata by wrapping it with purple yarn. The girls pulled every string – the right one was the very last one left!
What a sweet party! Thanks so much for sharing, Ashley! Happy 5th birthday to Aubrey! : )
