Candice Smith of Something Blu Wedding and Event Planning recently coordinated a beautiful STRUT for a Cure event to educate women and raise funds for breast cancer research. With silent auctions, guest speakers, a raffle, a formal lunch, and a delicious dessert bar, there was plenty for guests to do and enjoy! Candice says, “For our event, our focus was to bring women together to educate, uplift and empower them on the issues of breast cancer and how it has affected our communities.”
Candice was asked personally by the founder of STRUT for a Cure to coordinate the event. She says, “This issue has been near and dear to me for many years since my grandmother had breast cancer along with other close girlfriends of mine. So getting ready for it was not difficult. I knew I wanted an intimate group of phenomenal women at a great location. Long Beach Museum of Art is such a great venue and I’ve coordinated an event there previously, so that was perfect. As I continued to plan the details began to come together. Then I came across all the Breast Cancer Awareness printables from Chickabug! It was exactly what I was in need of for the event! The table signs, items for the dessert table as well as the tags for the gift bags for the attendees, fantastic. It couldn’t have been more perfect and on time for this event.”
Several companies generously donated products to the event to be used at the event and in the silent auction. Contributions included a massage and facial from Massage Envy, shirts and pins from Kraft Foods, discount cards from Bites Desserts, an exquisite orchid floral arrangement from Scarlet Flowers Designs, gifts from Princess Club International and Only Believe International, and a private dinner for two from OCLA Catering.
Guests filled out dedication cards “in memory of,” “in celebration of,” or “in honor of” their loved ones.
“Dr. Gwen Allen of Gardena Womens Center gave such insight on healthy living with relation to breast cancer, and our two survivor speakers, Scean Ellis and Shonita Stevenson, challenged us to take our health more seriously,” Candice says. “The sole purpose was to educate and discuss matters of prevention but we were also able to raise funds for breast cancer research in the process.”
Raffle winners were drawn and the winners were thrilled with their prizes!
“All of these moments were captured by VVK Photo, who was also a sponsor of the event,” Candice says.
The guests were treated to a delicious dessert bar, featuring cupcakes, candy, and cake pops.
The cake pops are from Creole Primas Cake Pops. Candice says, “They were delicious!”
The swag gifts for attendees included educational material from Susan G. Komen For the Cure, pink ribbon pins, and other special treats.
It’s obvious everyone had a wonderful time! : ) Candice says, “It was phenomenal! I couldn’t have asked for a better afternoon nor a more fitting event with a great group of women. I believe we all STRUTTED away with a sense of new awareness. Something Blu is looking forward to (and already planning) STRUT for a Cure 2013!”
