One of my super-crafty customers, Jill, just threw a John Deere party and had a fantastic idea for favors! Inspired by Bakerella’s cowgirl cookies, Jill created John Deere cookie mix jars with green, yellow and brown M&M’s. Look how great they turned out:

John Deere fabric was used to cover the lids. All put together, each jar is just adorable!

Jill said that after sorting out all of the M&Ms by color, each jar came together in a snap using Bakerella’s recipe.

Under the fabric on the lid, there’s a printable circle in John Deere colors detailing the remaining ingredients and baking instructions. (Jill printed her circles onto uncut sticker stock, then punched out the stickers with a 2″ paper punch, so that they adhered right to the lids.)

Instead of putting the circles directly on the lids, you can also print onto card stock to make tags (again, just use a 2″ paper punch to make the circles). It’s SUPER cute either way!

And… surprise! I’m giving away the printable recipe circle for FREE!!

Thank you so much to Jill for the fab photos!

This is a great idea!  You could make it MUCH easier though and go to the bulk foods area of the supermarket (we have Meijer's around here) and they often sell "off" brand M&M's that you can scoop out whatever colors you want.  Then you only have to buy the yellow and green or whatever color party you're doing.

But then you wouldn't have all those extra colors that need to be eaten. LOL! : ) Actually, that's a great tip - thank you Jenney!

I love the idea of giving away homemade dry mixes as gifts.  Not only do you give a sweet gift but you give the gift of being slightly lazy to someone.  Somehow cookie baking doesn't seem as hard when all the dry stuff is already together...

My grandfather taught me to "drive" on his old "Poppin' Johnny" as his father called them. Years later, my cousins still buy John Deere. With all the little ones in the next generation, these will be a HUGE hit!

The mom who made these jars bought extra-large bags of M&M's and sorted by color, but you can also buy them in single colors, for example...
