How to make a zebra cake

How cool is this zebra cake! It’s pretty on the outside and a party on the inside. ; )

A vanilla and chocolate mix like this one is ideal for a zebra theme party, of course, but you could also make the stripes in any color scheme by using white cake batter and a bit of food coloring. How about hot pink and light pink for a super-girlie cake, or green and white for St. Patrick’s Day?

These lovely photos are from a tutorial at My Cake School, where the step-by-step instructions give away just how easy it is to make this kind of cake! There are also some great tips – for example, if you’re using boxed cake mix, the kinds with pudding in the mix are a bit too thick; you need a slightly thinner batter for best results (who knew!).

For full instructions and more handy hints, check out the photo tutorial here.

Making this for my husband's birthday/Valentines Day/our 17th wedding anniversary. I wanted something bold and different. Making it a layered zebra-cake ( with red velvet cake & white cake mixes) for the event. White icing to cover it. The remainder of the batter, I made into bold 1/2 & 1/2 cupcakes.
Thank you for the wonderful idea. My husband is going to be SO surprised when he cuts into his cake.
